Zealous of Good Works

At the Sixth of Proverbs, Solomon observed that six things were hated of God, and seven were an abomination unto Him. Numbers four and five on the list are an heart that devises wicked imaginations and feet that are swift in running to mischief. The wise man had later noted that as a man thought in his heart, so he was. Therefore, the devising of wicked imaginations is the first step in committing the offense imagined. That the feet are swift to run to the imagined mischief indicates a zeal for evil deeds. The apostle Paul, however, wrote at the Fourth of Galatians that it is good to be zealous in a good thing; to be otherwise is to defeat God’s purpose for us. At the Second of Titus, Paul wrote again to say that Christ gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify unto Himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
