Cast into the Fire
The more important the purpose, the more important is the preparation to accomplish it. Man is called to no greater purpose than that of fidelity to Christ. Therefore, one cannot overemphasize the importance of proper preparation to achieve it. At the Third of Matthew’s Gospel, John the Baptist called upon those who would come to his baptism to bring forth fruits of repentance. Without such a change of heart, one has failed to prepare the way for the Lord to enter it. John pointed out that such preparation cannot be inherited, but must be penitently demonstrated by each individual who would come to Christ. Those who fail to bring forth the fruits of repentance are described as trees which are hewn down and cast into the fire.
