Forgiven All That Debt

It is at the Eighteenth of Matthew that the Savior left us a parable of a debtor unable to pay what he owed. When his lord ordered the sale of the debtor, his family, and his property to settle the obligation, his pleas for mercy were answered with an outright forgiveness of the debt. When the former debtor failed to show the same compassion to his fellow man, he was cast into prison until he paid the original debt. He would never emerge from that prison, for it had already been shown he could not pay. Without the Lord’s mercy, we are left with a debt incurred by sin that no man can ever pay. By the application of Divine grace under the terms that grace is granted, man is loosed, and forgiven all that debt.
