But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you (Romans 6:17).

Paul’s gratitude for the positive response of these Roman saints to the beautiful gospel of Christ brings to mind his dissimilar lament about his Jewish brethren (whom he loved), who were contrariwise establishing their own righteousness (Romans 10:1-3).

There is just something special about that form of doctrine. It is the difference between grateful praise and a mournful realization of many who reject it. We are blessed to have the ability to choose to obey that form of doctrine and to be delivered thereby. Those who have done so ought often to include in their petitions to God the same sort of thankfulness.
