Victory Over Satan

As far back as the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, God announced Satan’s defeat when He said the seed of the woman would bruise the devil’s head. That was more than four thousand years before Christ arrived upon the Earth. At First John Three, the purpose of the Son of God is shown explicitly to be the destruction of the works of Satan. The devils who had possessed a man at the Eighth of Matthew indicated acknowledgment of the Savior’s superiority over them. Knowing this as they do, James wrote that the devils believe and tremble. Further, James enjoins submission to God as the first step in successful resistance to the tempter, who will subsequently flee. By this, mere men partake of the Savior’s victory over Satan.
