After the forty years of wandering, the generation which grew up in the wilderness was instructed to not “forget the Lord your God” and pursue idols or they would be destroyed (Deuteronomy 11:20).
The great missionary Apostle knew that his death was imminent (2 Timothy 4:6). His greatest concern was for Timothy, his beloved son in the faith (2 Timothy 1:2). He sought to prepare him through the admonitions contained in this passage.
