But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself (Daniel 1:8).

When Daniel was captured by the Babylonians, he was faced with a dilemma – stay true to God and possibly face death, or compromise God’s will and gain the favor of his captors.

“But Daniel purposed in his heart.” This means that when it came time to make that decision, it had already been made in his heart. Daniel’s faith was one that was going to honor God in everything, no matter what.

Today you may be faced with a tough decision that would cause you to compromise God’s will. Do not wait for it to crop up and catch you off guard. Determine in your heart now to honor God in everything – it makes decision time easy.
