My family is my treasure and they have my heart. God wants that connection with me. The Psalmist prays, “Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings” (Psalm 17:8).

Jesus did not come into this world for His own good. He had us in mind. Christ said in His own words, “Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28). Leaving the glories of heaven and setting aside His equality with the Father (John 17:5; Philippians 2:6-8),
We all live two lives, an inward life and an outward life. Peter urged women “Do not let your adornment be merely outward…rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit…” (1 Peter 3:3, NKJV). We’re often better at maintaining the outward man, the one people easily see.
What does it mean to be God’s child? Jesus helps us to understand this in the present context. Our Lord connected God’s goodness (Matthew 7:7-11) to our kindness shown to others. Earlier in the Sermon on the Mount, He had said, “That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven.” Such was the design, or purpose, of one’s loving both friend and foe (Matthew 5:43-48).
Someone has said, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.” At certain times and in certain areas of life, this might be good advice. In the area of personal relationships, however, this mantra can lead to trouble. Habits and even isolated acts that might be perceived as “little,” often prove to be either deadly or “life-saving” to a relationship.
