Daily Lift – November 10, 2016

So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do (Luke 17:10).

Jesus taught His followers that true discipleship was the denial of self. Once one has tendered their resignation to self this makes it possible for Jesus to be their Lord (Luke 6:46).

Masters have servants. Servants have only one real task to perform. Whatever their master wants, that they must do (John 14:15). Once they have achieved their goal in service, they can only say that they have done as charged. Jesus is our ultimate example of servanthood. He came as God in the flesh, yet He humbled Himself and became a servant. As His head dropped in death one last time on the cross, He simply uttered, “It is finished.” He came and did what He was called to do (John 17:4). So should we.
