Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee (Deuteronomy 4:23).
This was a covenant that God expected His children to keep.
We should not take this matter lightly. We are prone to forget our relationship with God until we find ourselves in a foxhole, or even when things are going well. But especially when we allow ourselves to be influenced by the world have we forgotten our covenant. “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world…” (1 John 2:15a). Do not allow yourself to be conformed to the world (Romans 12:1), nor friends with the world (James 4:4).
Love God with all your heart (Luke 10:27).
