Men or God
At the Twelfth of John’s Gospel, we are taught that many failed to believe in Jesus Christ, in spite of the fact that He had performed many miracles among them. Among the chief rulers, however, there were many who did believe in the Savior; yet, out of fear that the Pharisees would put them out of the synagogue, those believing rulers kept their faith to themselves. The Pharisees were not even recognized in the earlier record of the Mosaic age, but, by the time of Christ, had risen to such prominence and influence that even rulers seemed ruled by them. According to the Scriptures, the whole matter is reduced to the question of whether one desires the most to please men or God.
