Grown Indeed
Jesus asked Peter at the Twenty-First of John if he loved Him. When Peter answered in the affirmative, the Lord told Peter to feed His lambs. Soon afterward, the savior asked Peter again if he loved Him. When Peter said he did, the Lord told Peter to feed His sheep. The fact that those Jesus previously referred to as lambs are now called sheep may be regarded as an indication that there would be a maturing among the objects of the work Peter was being called upon to do. Hence, the work itself also grows, and this requires growth of those who would carry out that work. When Peter’s third affirmation of love for the Lord was met by a third directive to do the Lord’s work, Peter was told that this work would cost him his life. When he who had denied the Lord becomes instead His martyr, he has grown indeed.
