Only Begotten Son

One can neither fully understand nor appreciate the New Testament without first understanding and appreciating the Old Testament. One of the reasons for this is the lengthy series of types in the Old Testament that are antityped in the New Testament. One example of this is God’s declaration at the Seventh of Deuteronomy that it was because He loved the people Israel that He redeemed them out of Egyptian bondage. This type is antityped by God’s continuing love for all people as demonstrated by His offer of deliverance from the bondage of sin. As the one God sent to deliver Israel, Moses became the type of whom Jesus Christ was the antitype; and, as before, God demonstrated His love for the world, this time by the giving of His only begotten Son.
