Those Who Mourn
The Savior taught an audience of multitudes that they are blessed who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Mourning results from various causes; so, comfort must take various forms. People mourned the death of a ruler’s daughter at the Ninth of Matthew until the Lord restored her life, as He did that of Lazarus at John Eleven. Peter mourned because of his denial of Christ at the Twenty-Sixth of Matthew, and they of Second Corinthians Seven sorrowed unto repentance for the sin among them. For them, comfort would come in the form of forgiveness. Whether by the Lord’s power over death to grant eternal life, or by His power to forgive sins by His sacrificial blood, there is comfort promised to those who mourn.
