Daily Lift – January 27, 2016

That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world (Philippians 2:15).

When I was a child I would visit my cousins who lived “in the sticks.” We would play in the woods near their house until way after dark, and then make our way back home using only the light on the porch as our guide. No matter how dark the night became, that single light was enough to pierce the darkness and guide us back home. Darkness is simply the absence of light.

Spiritually speaking, this darkness envelopes the world when light is removed. God is light (1 John 1:5), the Word of God is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:11), and Christians are to be the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Christians at Philippi were urged to be lights, harmless and blameless instead of joining in with the evil of this world.
