Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful (Psalm 1:1).

If one is to be happy (blessed), he needs to be careful where he walks, stands and sits. While the world promises happiness in sin, it ultimately brings sadness and disappointment. The Psalmist describes the progression of sin. One may start walking in the counsel of the ungodly, then find himself standing in the way of sinners and ultimately be found sitting in the seat of the scornful. Sin will take us further than we wanted to go and keep us longer that we intended to stay.

May we, like the Psalmist say; “I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked” (Psalm 26:4–5).
