Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15).
Few things of value come easily. Whether
it be gold, diamonds or oil, they must be
unearthed at great effort. However great the
effort, the reward far exceeds it. The same is
true concerning the treasure that is the Word
of God (Matthew 13:44-46). Those who put
forth the effort to know the will of God have
no need to fear Him, instead they can rejoice
in knowing they have His approval.
The phrase “rightly dividing” literally means
“to cut straight.” Those who put in the work
to study it will be rewarded with the skill
to correctly wield the “sword of the Spirit”
(Ephesians 6:17). Those who do not give it
the proper attention run the risk of perverting
it to their own destruction (2 Peter 3:16).
