And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever (Revelation 22:5).
It’s interesting how sin is pictured in the Bible in terms of darkness. We are to have no fellowship with the “unfruitful works of darkness” (Ephesians 5:11); we have been “delivered out of darkness” (Colossians 1:13); and we have been “called out of darkness into his marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). What’s more, hell is described as “outer darkness” (Matthew 22:13), “bonds under darkness” (Jude 6), and “blackness of darkness” (Jude 13).
But on the other hand heaven is a place, not just where there is less darkness – Heaven is a place of no darkness. There will be no need for the light of a lamp or sun because in heaven the Son will always be shining!
