For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments (Ezra 7:10).
Those who preach and teach the Word of God realize the seriousness of that work (James 3:1).
In Ezra 7:10 we are privileged to see Ezra’s plan as he set out to teach God’s Word. First, he prepared his heart which is to say he made up his mind. Then he studied. The word “seek” has in it the idea of studying. Every preacher and teacher must study (2 Timothy 2:15).
Ezra also determined to “do it.” The preacher must live what he preaches lest he risk undoing all his good work. We read later (Nehemiah 8:12) of the great joy that comes from knowing and doing God’s will. We can share that joy.
