I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).
Paul was in an all-out-run for the greatest reward one could obtain, and he will receive his reward, a crown of life (2 Timothy 4:7-8). How exciting and rewarding that will be! All who have heard and obeyed God’s high calling become Christians (Acts 11:26).
In the Bible, Christianity is referred to as a race (1 Corinthians 9:24; Hebrews 12:1). Christians start on a mark at the beginning of the race and run toward the mark at the end of the race for the prize. This race is the Christian life we are living. The race is to be run by all Christians (1 Corinthians 9:24). The race is run in Christ Jesus. Paul said he was pressing toward that mark, the finish line, for the prize. The idea is he stretched out to cross the finish line to win the prize.
May we have the same heart as Paul to enter the race, run the race, stretch it out till the end, and finish the race – just like Paul.
