Against Me
By original design, the ancient Israelite priesthood was less about authority and more about the rendering of a spiritual service on behalf of the people. Yet, by the time of Christ, the priesthood had evolved into an aristocratic hierarchy of rulers, and the high priest had become a virtual sovereign. The priests worked in opposition to the Savior throughout His ministry and were instrumental in His crucifixion. Having failed to recognize that their office was defunct, they ordered the apostles at the Fifth of Acts to cease the preaching of Christ. They who were intended to serve the Lord had done the exact opposite. As the Savior declared at the Twelfth of Matthew, “He that is not with Me is against Me.”
