Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16).
When the Word of God lives in us, it will eventually display itself in the form of something spiritual. Since the Word is of the Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21), that which it produces is also of the spirit. This is why all true praise to God in worship is not physical, but spiritual.
Our singing not only glorifies our Father, it also instructs and encourages our brethren. As we sing we are to do so with the spirit and the understanding (1 Corinthians 14:15). When we couple this with the melody of our hearts, our worship is a sweet smelling aroma to God!
