Daily Lift – August 14, 2015

Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God (Leviticus 18:4).

Matthew Henry said, “When the law of God is written in our hearts, our duty will be our delight.” The people of God, then and now, must live in a way that displays loving faithfulness to our Creator and Deliverer. Notice there is a path to observe. We are to “observe,” “keep” and “walk in” God’s “judgments” and “ordinances.” The purpose of God’s law, then and now, is for our good and for the Lord’s glory (Deuteronomy 30:15-20; 1 John 5:1-5). We must not downplay the necessity of obedience!

Consider also that there is a Presence to trust. The source of these “judgments” and “ordinances” is the great “I am.” The passage also speaks of “the Lord” and “your God.” The One who gives us a path to observe will ever be the One in whose presence we may trust. The Lord God Almighty is the One upon Whom we depend (Hebrews 13:5-6).
