Why Not?

One of the most commonly asked questions is “Why?” When applied to baptism, the question has multiple answers, and none more or less important than the others. Acts Two reveals baptism to be for the remission of sins, while Acts Twenty-Two describes this as washing sins away. Both Romans Six and Galatians Three teach us that we are baptized into Christ, the latter adding that we put on Christ. First Peter Three states succinctly that baptism saves us, and discourages the misconception of a physical cleansing in favor of spiritual benefits. The Savior at Matthew Twenty-Eight and Peter at Acts Two both declared baptism to be by Divine authority. Rather than ask why one should be baptized, perhaps one should ask, “Why not?”
