Cause Him to Flee
First Samuel Seven tells us of the gathering of the Philistines against the Israelites at Mizpeh. When the frightened Israelites called upon Samuel to petition God for them, Samuel offered sacrifice and prayed for the people. God responded with a thunder so great that the Philistines were put to flight, and Israel smote them. As our enemy, Satan also seeks our harm, though God is able to deliver us as well. Though temptation is common to every man, First Corinthians Ten assures us that God is faithful to prevent the devil from overwhelming us, and to provide a way to escape him. The Fourth of James encourages us to first be in submission to God. Then, the resistance of Satan will cause him to flee.
