Daily Lift – December 17, 2016

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows (1 Timothy 6:10).

Would you be surprised to hear that idolatry thrives in our world? When we think of idol worship, we usually picture a piece of stone, wood, or some precious metal that is fashioned into an image before which people bow. Idolatry, however, is simply admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone other than God.

The verse before us is a warning that money can become an idol. Those who sought after it strayed from the faith and heaped sorrow on their lives. Jesus said that those who place their treasures here will find no reward in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21).

It is not so much what you have as what you DO with what you have. Glorify God with what you have, and He will bless you.
