Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted (Galatians 6:1).
Cain asked, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9). When it comes to our relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ, we certainly are to be our “brother’s keeper.”
When a brother falls back into sin, we have at least two responsibilities to them:
First, faithful Christians have a responsibility to the erring. The “spiritual” (those who remain faithful to the Lord) are charged with reaching out to their erring brethren.
Second, faithful Christians have a responsibility to restore the erring in the right spirit – in a spirit of meekness.
An erring Christian can return to faithful service if he or she repents (Acts 8:22), confesses that sin to God (1 John 1:7-9), and prays (Acts 8:22).
