Declared Innocent

In the days of the apostle Paul, the city of Corinth was a cosmopolitan place, and various pagan and idolatrous religions were practiced there, often involving lewd and immoral activities. At First Corinthians Six, Paul noted that some who had become members of the Church there had once been guilty of these heinous offenses. However, by obedience to the Gospel, they had become washed, sanctified, and justified. The washing indicates they had once been stained by sin’s guiltiness. The sanctification indicates that, while they had once been given to sin, they had become instead reserved for spiritual service and purity. The justification indicates that, in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of God, the once guilty had been declared innocent.
