Unfit Soil
Though it was a sermon that cost him his life, Stephen told those who would immediately murder him that they had rejected Divine truth as their ancestors had done for generations. Almost thirty years later at the Twenty-Sixth of Acts, Paul the apostle declared the Gospel truth, only to have Festus the governor question his sanity, and Agrippa the king to say he was almost, but not altogether, persuaded to be a Christian. In reality, Agrippa came little closer to redemption than the audience of Stephen. Either one believes or disbelieves, is obedient or disobedient, and is saved or lost. Unfortunately, the Savior taught us at the Fourth of Mark that most of the seed of the Gospel is lost on unfit soil.
