Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world (James 1:27).

Many detest the word religion. They may site the many atrocities that have been made in the name of religion as the reason for their distain. However, the foundation for their argument is based upon polluted religion and not the pure religion God set forth in the Scriptures. James was inspired by God to give Christians direction on what pure religion looks like, and that it is required for one to “keep himself unspotted from the world.”

If we all take the time to look for opportunities to visit (i.e. meet the needs of) the “fatherless and widows,” not only would it help to keep us unspotted from the world, but it will change the world’s view of religion.
