God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1).
A refuge is a shelter. It is a safe place to go amidst any storm or tempest. In every situation that brings discomfort to the human soul, God alone is the safest location for consolation and peace.
Because God is our refuge, we can trust in Him at all times (Psalm 62:8). He is a strong tower against our enemies (Psalm 61:3). He is our salvation and glory, and our rock of strength (Psalm 62:7). When His children fear Him, they can be confident in His deliverance (Proverbs 14:26), because God is their portion in the land of the living (Psalm 142:5).
