Daily Lift – March 10, 2015

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6).

The proper training of our children is a God-assigned, individual responsibility assigned primarily to fathers that cannot be forgotten. The Hebrews writer taught that nothing was more important than the rearing of a child in godliness. No reward in life was better than to have a “wise son,” and no sorrow was bigger than to have reared a “foolish son” (Proverbs 10:1; 15:20).

Three things come to mind in training for life. One: The training of a child begins early and is something that continues for a lifetime (Proverbs 19:28). Two: Both father and mother have a part in raising their children (1 Timothy 2:15; 5:14; 2 Timothy 1:5; Titus 2:3-5). Three: Spend time encouraging and building children up (Colossians 3:21; Ephesians 6:4).
