What That Purpose Is

When Peter confidently identified Jesus as the Christ and the Son of God at the Sixteenth of Matthew, the Savior pronounced him blessed for accepting Divine testimony on that matter, rather than subscribing to the varied and erroneous opinions of the public. Soon afterward, Jesus addressed Peter as Satan because Peter, though well-meaning, seemed intent on preventing the Lord’s crucifixion, though the Savior had said that it must occur. It is apparent that Peter was blessed when he listened to the Lord and sharply rebuked when he did not. Our good intentions may well vary from the Lord’s purpose for us, and it is by listening to Him, and Him only, that we discover what that purpose is.
