Daily Lift – March 2, 2015

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil (Job 1:1).

Three things stand out about Job that are worthy of consideration.

  1. Job’s Focus. “Perfect” means pious, blameless. Job’s focus was on spiritual things (also see Matthew 6:19-21; Colossians 3:1-2).
  2. Job’s Faith. “Upright” means straight, just. Biblical faith is active (James 2:24, 26), it obeys God’s commands. Job was obedient.
  3. Job’s Fear. “Fear” means that Job had respect, or reverence, for God. His respect for God caused him to “eschew,” or turn away from, evil. If we really love God, we will obey Him and flee from sin (1 Thessalonians 5:22).

This is God’s description of Job. How would God describe you?
