Unto His own Master

At the Twelfth of Matthew’s Gospel the Pharisees charged the Savior’s disciples with violation of the Sabbath when they plucked ears of corn to eat. The Lord responded to remind them that David had violated the Law of Moses also when he took shewbread that was intended only for the priests. However, David did so because he had no other access to provisions. Because no work was to be performed on the Sabbath, Jesus observed that it could be said that the priests themselves profaned the day by the doing of their duties. Soon afterward, the Savior healed a man in the Synagogue, still on the Sabbath day, to make the point that it was He Who was Lord of all days, and that none should take it upon themselves to condemn the guiltless. It is not unto those men that would be judges that a man stands or falls, but unto his own Master.
