Our Formidable Task
It was a formidable task unto which the disciples of Jesus were called. Though He gave them the ability to perform it, they were required to have the faith to use that ability. It is a formidable task unto which we are called when, at the Sixth of Ephesians, we are told that our spiritual adversaries are principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places. However, it is with the Lord’s strength, not our own, with which we meet the foe, and we do so with six items of spiritual armor. Paul wrote that the most important among these was the shield of faith. There is no cause to wonder, then, why it is impossible to please God if we are found without the faith necessary to achieve our formidable task.
