The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him (Nahum 1:7).
Of the innumerable wonderful and matchless qualities of the Lord, three were here given special attention by Nahum; the Lord is good, protecting, and trustworthy.
The Lord is good in the ultimate sense; moreover, “there is none good but one, that is, God” (Matthew 19:17). The Lord is protecting, being His child’s fortress, high tower, deliverer, and shield (Psalm 144:2). The Lord is trustworthy, worthy of man’s trust whenever he may be afraid (Psalm 56:3).
May our words echo David’s: “In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me” (Psalm 56:4).
