For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this? (Esther 4:14).
The faith of Mordecai is evident and impressive that God would deliver the Jews from Haman’s plan to destroy them, but it is the last part of the verse said to Esther from which we might gain the most. “Who knoweth whether…”
When we consider being active in the kingdom of our Lord, it is often that we fail in lack of action. We should take opportunities when they present themselves to do good works, but we should also make opportunities by paying attention to what is going on around us. The responsibility of spreading the gospel is upon each Christian. We may need to do some self-examination and consider the phrase: “who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this.”
