For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit (Luke 6:43).
A farmer cannot plant a seed of corn and get watermelon. He cannot plant okra and get tomatoes. None would be so Foolish as to think or argue that such would be possible.
Our Lord speaks of the concise logical facts that a good tree produces good fruit and a bad tree produces bad fruit. We reap what we sow (Galatians 6:8-9). The Old Testament passage rings in our ear, “Be sure your sins will find you out” (Numbers 32:23).
The obvious lesson for our consideration is to live a righteous life that we might stand righteously before our Creator in judgment. It is impossible to live like a goat and die a sheep.
