To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me (Acts 26:18).
Paul had literally seen the Light. He was so impressed in this encounter with Jesus that he reversed the course of his entire life. He abandoned all that he had under Judaism, the training at Gamaliel’s feet, and the opportunity to rise to prominence.
Paul chose wisely and turned to a more important task: The Gentiles needed the Light! A question we ought to ask of ourselves: How much impact has the Light impacted our lives? If the Light has done so much for us, should we not want – even be indebted – to share that very Light with others? Are we doing our part “to open their eyes” for those that are spiritual Gentiles today?
