Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws (Genesis 26:5).
Why did God bless Abraham? What was it about Abraham that stood out and made him a central figure in the scheme of redemption and the recipient of God’s providential care? The simple, one-word answer is his “faith.”
The “faith only” advocates would have us to believe that Abraham was justified by faith alone, but such a doctrine is foreign to Scripture. Read the first five verses of Genesis 26, where God promised Isaac, “I will be with you and bless you…I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven.” Why? “Because Abraham obeyed My voice.”
Abraham’s “faith was working together with his works” (James 2:21-24). God will bless us today when our faith is perfected by working alongside our works. Is your faith like Abraham’s?
