The Means and the End

While that which is born of the flesh is flesh, the Savior taught Nicodemus at the Third of John that one must be born again of water and the Spirit. When Nicodemus asked Jesus how this could be, the Lord, in turn, asked Nicodemus if he was a master of Israel who knew not those things. As a master, or teacher, there is a certain level of knowledge and understanding one would rightfully be expected to possess. The Fourth of Ephesians reveals that no fewer than five spiritual gifts were given for the purpose of teaching or communicating the Word of God. Collectively, this would perfect the saints, enable the work of the ministry, and edify the Body of Christ. The result of this would be unity, knowledge, and spiritual maturity. The proper teacher appreciates and aspires to both the means and the end.
