Defense is in the Word
The Fourth of Matthew’s Gospel begins with the word “Then,” indicating that what is about to occur immediately follows a previous event. What had just taken place was the baptism of the Savior in order to fulfill all righteousness and the owning of the Son by the Father as One in Whom He was well pleased. It is this spiritually beautiful scenario that Satan would then attempt to destroy by the temptation of the Savior in the wilderness. Righteousness had been fulfilled, and Jehovah had declared Christ to be His own, and all this the Lord would defend by thrice referring to the Scriptures. If Satan sought to ruin the spiritual beauty of the life of the Lord, he will do the same to everyone. Our defense is in the Word.
