The Number of His Sins

At the Tenth of Leviticus, Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they offered strange fire in their censers. As priests, they surely knew the censers were to be lighted only with coals of fire from the altar. It was but a single error, but it reaped devastating results when God consumed them with fire. The Second of Genesis tells 1us that God gave Adam and Eve the fruit of every tree of the Garden of Eden for food, only prohibiting them from eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Their failure to avoid the latter tree was but a single transgression, but it changed the course of their lives and of all humanity. One of man’s great mistakes has perhaps been to assume that the consequence of his sins is limited by the number of his sins.
