Correction, Forgiveness, and Redemption

First Samuel Seven tells us of the Israelites who mourned and lamented after the Lord. Samuel told them that in order to return unto the Lord with all their heart, they must put away false gods and idols; and they did so. Obviously, the mourning and lamenting were not enough; they needed to manifest repentance before the Lord. The apostle Paul taught a similar principle at Second Corinthians Seven. Paul regretted having to make the Corinthians sorry for sin but did not regret that their sorrow led them to repentance. Sorrow alone would have brought spiritual death; it is Godly sorrow that leads to correction, forgiveness, and redemption.
