My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations (James 1:2).
Happiness is easy when everything is going our way. However, James instructed his brethren to be happy when life fell in on them. Overcoming trials results in receiving the promise of heaven (Matthew 5:11-12; Hebrews 10:32-39).
Trials also help me grow (James 1:3). The waste is eliminated from my life (1 Peter 1:6-7). Trials can teach me (Psalm 119:71). Pressing on despite trials teaches me the value of endurance and leads to a lasting hope (Romans 5:3-5).
Like Paul, we need to continue living for Jesus, remembering Heaven is the real goal (Philippians 1:21-23; 2 Timothy 4:6-8).
