Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:13).
People in Peter’s day used something like a belt to secure their flowing clothes in a way that allowed them to work without stumbling over them. Christians must prepare for spiritual service by training their minds with prayer and study (Acts 6:4; 1 Thessalonians 5:18; 2 Timothy 2:15).
We must control our minds, which in turn will control our bodies, if we would successfully complete the race and win the prize (1 Corinthians 9:27). This can only be achieved by forgetting past successes and failures and keeping one’s single-minded focus on the heavenly home (Philippians 3:12-14).
