And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up (Deuteronomy 6:7).

Take time to consider every word in this verse. “You” – a personal responsibility. “Shall” command. “Teach” – involves deliberate instruction. “Them” – the words and commands of God (v. 6). “Diligently”– with earnest, constant, determined effort. “To”– targeted aim. “Your” – belonging to you; your responsibility. “Children” – heritage from the Lord needing training and directing back to Him.

While bringing your children up in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6) is certainly a challenge, they are “a reward” granted unto us by our Heavenly Father (Psalm 127:3).

Set God’s Word in the center of your home. Read it! Teach it! Live it! Love it!
