Daily Lift – February 26, 2016

So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading (Nehemiah 8:8).

Ezra stood before the people and read from God’s Word (Nehemiah 8:1-4). As he read, the people stood up because of their respect for the word (8:5). This respect was born out of their understanding of three important truths:

God’s Word is powerful. It is able to touch our hearts with God’s love and mercy, motivating us to obey His commands (Hebrews 4:12). It is able to save our souls (James 1:21).

God’s Word is practical. It contains the wisdom of the ages (Proverbs 1:7).

God’s Word is plain. We can understand God’s will for our lives (Ephesians 3:4). God’s Word is a precious treasure!
