Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame (1 Corinthians 15:34).

Choices have consequences, and we, like the Corinthian Christians, have the ability to control the choices we make. If we choose, we can seek the knowledge of God, turn from sin, and awake to righteousness.

Interestingly, the Holy Spirit chose a word, translated “awake,” that means to return to one’s sober mind after drunkenness. Living in sin is likened unto the folly and stupor of intoxication. Sober minded people seek the knowledge of God, realize the eternal dangers associated with sin, and choose to do right (1 John 3:7).

Not to do so is “to your shame,” both now and forever more.
